Michael Kim

Michael was born in South Korea and immigrated to the United States when he was 15. He went on to
study Finance and Electrical Engineering at the Wharton and Moore School of the University of
Pennsylvania and started his career as a Systems Analysis Engineer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in
Pasadena, California. While working there he served at Wilton Korean Presbyterian Church as a Deacon
and Sunday School Teacher for more than five years. He moved to Phoenix, AZ for his second job, a
Program Manager position at a spacecraft development company called Spectrum Astro. While in
Phoenix, AZ, he also served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at the Arizona Korean Presbyterian
Church. In 1997, during the dot com boom, he moved to the Bay Area and started his SAP career and
started attending the NCBC (New Community Baptist Church) where he met his wife, Dr. Esther Lee.
Then in 2008, their son Alexander was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). They were
devastated when they found out that Alex’s condition was severe. The initial prognosis was that he may
end up needing support for the rest of his life. Relying on the power of the Lord, they immediately
worked to improve his chance of success. One night, Michael was so afraid of Alex’s future, he recited
Psalm 23 repeatedly until Alex fell asleep. This happened for many weeks. Miraculously, Alex began to
memorize Psalm 23 when he barely started speaking! This is captured on this YouTube video created in
September 2009: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55CPk1elHSk . Both Esther and Michael were
encouraged to see Alex make progress gradually, albeit slowly. Today, Alex is a straight-A student at
LACS High School. This is just one example of how God has helped Michael’s life in his 55 years of life.
Michael and Esther are grateful for LACS High School for providing a safe, accommodating academic and
spiritual environment for students with special needs. As a Board Member, Michael will continue to
work to improve the quality of school for all students, including the students with special needs.

Just to highlight how God has gifted Alex, here is the video from his December 2021 Piano Solo Recital:

the Lord and work to expand His Kingdom.
