Canine Companions Bring Joy and Learning to LACS
Since last fall, Fridays at Los Altos Christian School (LACS) have been extra special, thanks to visits from Canine Companions dogs and their volunteer handlers. Our elementary school students eagerly await their turn to practice reading to these certified therapy dogs, all while enjoying some heartwarming puppy love!
Canine Companions is a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing highly trained service dogs to children, adults, and veterans with disabilities—free of charge to the recipients. Their work has been incredibly impactful, and we’re thrilled to have them as part of our community.
On Wednesday, April 24, additional volunteers from Canine Companions held a special assembly for the entire school. During this engaging event, students learned about the crucial roles service dogs play in helping people with disabilities. They were also taught how to safely approach and interact with service dogs and other dogs in public spaces. The highlight of the assembly was when students got to practice these important skills with Future Service Dogs Nyx and Dottie, and Therapy Dog Trisha!
To show our gratitude to the wonderful volunteers from Canine Companions, LACS will be hosting a bake sale on May 17. Proceeds from the bake sale will benefit Canine Companions, helping them continue their incredible work. Stay tuned for more details on how you can contribute to this worthy cause.
