At LACS, we want students to see that faith is not only something we talk about, but something we live out. On Friday, May 1, our Kindergarten–8th grade students participated in a school-wide service event with Feed My Starving Children. During the afternoon, students worked in teams to scoop, measure, and pack meals that would be sent to children and families around the world facing hunger. With the help of parent volunteers, our gym became a busy workspace as students took on different roles and worked together to complete each box.
In our chapels leading up to the event, students spent time thinking about why this work matters. Jesus’ words in the Gospel of Matthew 25:40 remind us, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these… You did for me.” When we serve others, we are participating in the work God is already doing in the world. As a Christian school, we want students to understand that when we are given much, we are also called to give. Serving others is one way we respond to God’s provision in our own lives. We also talked about how small actions can make a real difference. One meal may seem small, but it can help a child have the energy to learn, grow, and stay healthy.
Throughout the afternoon, students packed carefully, stayed on task, and encouraged one another. Older students helped younger students learn the process, and many students took pride in doing their part well. We didn’t just talk about love this week—we practiced it, scoop by scoop, bag by bag, with care and focus. This is the kind of community we’re building together.
