Reflecting on a Great Basketball Season

The LACS A Team and C Team started the season with a shared philosophy: “We before me.” Players were encouraged to put the team ahead of individual achievements and embrace the 4 C’s—Christ, Character, Commitment, and Concentration. This mindset guided both teams on and off the court, shaping a season defined by teamwork, dedication, and steady growth.

A Team Turns Things Around

For the A Team (8th grade and under), this year’s championship capped a season of steady improvement. Just a year ago, the team finished 2–9. Before the season, Coach Bee met with players and parents to outline goals and expectations.

The team responded with determination, finishing 10–3 overall and 7–2 in league play. In the playoffs, LACS defeated Hillbrook 40–27 and ACDS 43–35 to reach the championship, where they won against Thomas More 55–46. Isaiah M. and Aaron M. combined for 22 first-half points to establish a lead, while Kyler M. scored 16 of the team’s final 17 points, sealing the win. Along the way, the team also had the opportunity to face two regular-season opponents again, showing clear growth and resilience.

C Team’s Strong Finish

The C Team (6th grade and under) entered the season after several years of consistent development. Last year, they reached the finals in the 5th–6th grade division. Early pre-season matchups helped the team identify areas to improve before league play began.

Once league play started, the team went undefeated at 8–0 and advanced to the playoffs, including a 43–35 semifinal win over Thomas More. In the championship against Merryhill, LACS trailed 32–29 with under 30 seconds left. Brandon N. scored to narrow the gap, and after a missed free throw, Ethan B. drove the court and assisted Evan N on a tying basket to send the game into overtime. Ethan B. then scored all four points in overtime, finishing with 31, to secure a 37–33 victory.

The championship reflects the ongoing growth of LACS’s basketball program. After reaching the finals last year, both teams returned to the championship this season, with the C Team capturing the title, a milestone for the school and its developing program.
