Dear Los Altos Christian Schools Community,
In Luke 2:13-14 we read, “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests’.” Shepherds watching over their flocks at night were given this message. They were not expecting such an amazing message to be given to them by heavenly hosts on this evening, but they were blessed by it nonetheless. Many were moved enough to go and see this infant king. Their God-given vision produced action leading to great blessing.
As I reflect on all that God has done in and through the LACS community in 2016, I feel amazed by the vision of so many good people which has produced action leading to great blessing. Our outstanding, well degreed, and faithful faculty have sought out courses, seminars, and various other forms of professional development because they desired to help their students succeed. Their dedication to our children and willingness to work side by side with administration for continued growth in teaching has produced blessings in the classroom. Our hard working, seasoned, and faithful administrative and office staff have talked with parents, met with teachers, and planned with one another fervently. What they share in meetings and in action each day exceeds my expectations and serves as a blessing to many. Our excellent support staff provide facilities management, office help, classroom aid time, and extended day care. Their desire to do this with great care for each child has provided increased excellence from the start to the finish of each school day. Our loving and generous Parent Teacher Fellowship has envisioned great events such as Walk-a-Thon and Season’s Givings to make it possible to provide programs and equipment well beyond our basic needs as a school. The LACS school board and pastoral staff at Bridges Community Church provides a vision of policy, direction, and daily support that blesses my leadership and our school community in turn.
If you had the opportunity to attend our Christmas Chapel today, I am certain you were blessed and amazed by “The Colors of Christmas” performance shared by our our preschool through 8th grade students and directed by our new Music teacher, Ms. Norita Hoegel. The time, talent, and faith that Ms. Hoegel put into developing and leading this special Christmas performance for our school community was another example of amazing vision producing action leading to blessing. As Head of Schools, I could not have wished for a more loving and gifted music teacher to develop our students and our music program. Please join me in congratulating her and our students and teachers on the wonderful performance.
The sense of Godly community that exists within LACS continues to spread beyond our campus thanks to the efforts of our generous students and parents. Our Chapel planning team developed an idea to share opportunities for local and global service with our school community last year. To date this year, LACS has donated well over $1,000, numerous new toys, and over 100 winter coats to benefit charities including City Team in San Jose and The Kilgoris Project in Kenya. Gifts such as these display a vision for generous giving leading to action for the sake of those in need leading to special blessing for our community.
As our students are excited to find what will be under the tree on Christmas morning, the shepherds mentioned in Luke 2 were amazed to discover what the heavenly hosts told them about the newborn Jesus. May we receive God’s message to our school school community and move forward with hope toward a vision that will bless each student and family in the days ahead. I look forward to sharing more of our vision with you during our LACS Parent Night on February 2, 2017.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
