A New School Year Message from Mr. Pethtel

Dear LACS Community,

It is my sincere hope that this summer has been a time of fun, family, friends and refreshment for everyone.  Our wonderful teachers have enjoyed some much deserved rest and reflection during these summer months.  The administrative team has blended times of rest with times of preparation for the upcoming school year, and we are eager to see all of our teachers, students and parents on campus soon!

Our school verse for this year will be 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 which reads, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”  In line with these verses, we want everyone who is involved in our school community to know the love of Jesus, and develop a personal relationship with Him.

LACS remains committed to hiring and retaining qualified and dedicated teachers and staff.   Please see “2018-2019 New Teachers and Staff” document to read about the exciting new faculty members we have been blessed to hire for the 2018-19 school year in addition to our already outstanding returning teachers and staff.

The administration, school board and Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) continue to strategically plan and raise funds to enhance our campus facilities and educational programs.  Beginning next week, we will install a beautiful new playground.  We look forward to seeing students enjoying these new structures on the first day of school.  Our safety committee is working with Applied Video Solutions to upgrade campus security by installing new fob controlled electronic access to all exterior doors in Burkhart Hall and the Preschool building.  This more secure door access will be operational for the first day of school.  We are now entering the second year of our middle school one-to-one laptop program using HP laptops.  Our 8th grade students, and our middle school science teacher will continue our STEM partnership with the Quest for Space and the International Space Station to upload student experiments to be run by astronauts in space.  All K-8 teachers are planning to enhance our writing curriculum across all subjects through the “Step up to Writing” model.  This enhancement combined with the adoption of a new Social Studies curriculum and more focused lessons for students in reading and writing will spell great success in the new schoolyear.

Please read and print the attached copies of our 2018-2019 Calendar, First Week of School at-a-Glance and New Staff Introduction documents.  Sejin Lim, Administrative Assistant, will also email our Lions’ Roar newsletter with several details including K-8 dress code, our updated Parent-Student Handbook, Hot Lunch welcome letter, PE uniform information, and more.  Please contact Sejin at Sejin.lim@lacs.com if you have any questions regarding school communications.

It is an honor and privilege to serve LACS teachers, staff, students and parents as Head of Schools.  I am always open to receive parent, student and teacher or staff needs and requests.  Please contact me as needed using the email and phone number listed below, or simply stop by my office to talk.  Thank you again for choosing to be part of Los Altos Christian Schools.

Blessings,
Gabe Pethtel, M.Ed.
