The
use of technology is an integral part of LACS' educational
methodology. Providing students with a variety of technological
skills is an important part of our curriculum. Each class receives
weekly computer instruction from our computer teachers, Mrs.
Ong and Mr. Nico. Over the past several years the school has aggressively pursued upgrading the technology used by students and staff. The entire campus is wired for computer use. There is Internet access in every classroom and office, and a fully networked computer lab containing some of the latest computer technology currently available. Additional technology is employed to block inappropriate Internet access. Staff and students are expected to comply with the Computer Use Policy. All teachers are encouraged to integrate the use of technology into their classroom teaching techniques as appropriate. Certain classrooms have computers dedicated to student use. Third through sixth grade classrooms are fully equipped with AlphaSmart keyboards which students use to prepare class assignments and improve keyboarding skills.
The faculty of LACS is encouraged to stay current with technology and bringing to their students new applications of technology to assist in the classroom environment. Ongoing technology training sessions for staff take place on-campus. Our equipment and software indicates LACS’ commitment towards the integration of technology in the teaching environment.
The computer lab workstations (up-to-date, state-of-the-art Pentium 4’s) are used by the students. Each one has access to the campus network and the Internet via a T1 access connection. LACS teaches students how to use MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and Internet Explorer. Further, our computer curriculum emphasizes the development and use of keyboarding skills by all students at the school via Learn to Type Jr., Jumpstart Typing, and Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. Scanners and printers are available in the lab for student access. The teachers use large-screen display monitors to demonstrate computer skills to the classes. Our Internet connection allows the students to find information quickly and efficiently. To complement our program, LACS has acquired additional vital peripherals to keep pace with the rapid pace of technology, e.g., LCD projectors, digital cameras, and DVD/VCR’s and monitors. | |
