Learning Assistance Department

The Learning Assistance Department consists of small student-to-teacher ratio classes with credentialed teachers who have specific training working with children experiencing academic difficulty due to specific learning differences such as dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, attention deficit disorder (ADD), or ADHD. A multi-sensory approach such as Slingerland for language arts is used to teach each subject. More visuals and hands-on learning at a slower pace is emphasized.

It is also a class that is ideal for students experiencing academic difficulties. Students struggling academically in a mainstream class can receive the extra attention a small class can give.

In grades 3-5 the teacher spends more time on oral reading and preparation for science and social studies than the mainstream class. Goals and objectives are developed for each student to monitor and gauge progress in all essential areas.

Technology (such as AlphaSmart keyboards) is incorporated as one of the supplemental teaching tools to enhance learning.
