Technology

The use of technology to enhance the learning experience at LACS  is an integral part of our educational methodology.  Providing students with a variety of effective technologies is important at LACS. Over the past several years LACS has aggressively pursued upgrading the technology used by students and staff.  In 1997 a team of volunteers successfully wired the entire campus. Their efforts resulted in Internet access in every classroom and office, and a fully networked lab of fifteen computers.

Our campus has a computer laboratory containing some of the latest computer technology currently available.

All teachers are encouraged to integrate the use of technology into their classroom teaching techniques as appropriate.  Certain classrooms have computers dedicated to student use.  Many classes are fully equipped with AlphaSmart keyboards which students use to prepare class assignments and improve keyboarding skills.

The faculty of LACS is encouraged to stay current with technology and bringing to their students new applications of technology to assist in the classroom environment.

Computer Lab Inventory

Today, LACS  inventory of both equipment and software indicate LACS’ commitment towards the integration of technology in the teaching environment.

LACS’ software applications include:

The Microsoft Office Suite containing: MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Publisher and MS-PowerPoint

Web focused applications: MS-FrontPage and Publisher

Graphics applications: Microsoft Photo Editor and Kid Pix Deluxe

Keyboarding Skills: Mavis Beacon

LACS' hardware includes:

The computer lab workstations (Pentium 4’s) are used by the students.  Each one has access to the campus network and the Internet via a T1 access connection.

The computers keep our labs up-to-date using state-of-the-art equipment. Scanners and printers are available in the labs for student access. The teachers teach using large-screen display monitors to demonstrate computer skills to the classes. Our T1 Internet connection allows the students to find information quickly and efficiently.

To complement the above equipment, VCS has acquired additional vital peripherals to keep pace with the rapid pace of technology. This includes:
Scanners
LCD Projectors
Digital Cameras
Computer Video equipment that includes DVD/VCR’s and monitors
